At least 13 suspected militants killed in fresh North Waziristan airstrikes

PESHAWAR: At least 13 suspected militants were killed and their hideouts were destroyed Wednesday in air strikes carried out by fighter jets in the Shawal tehsil of North Waziristan.

Sources claimed that the jet strikes destroyed at least six hideouts in the Shawal mountains and the area near Dattakhel.

However, these claims could not be independently verified.

Air strikes were also carried out late on Tuesday.

At least 18 suspected militants killed in North Waziristan drone attack

PESHAWAR: At least 18 suspected militants were killed Wednesday in a US drone attack in North Waziristan tribal region’s Dattakhel area.

Intelligence sources said that the drone fired missiles on a compound in Saidgai area of Dattakhel as a result of which the compound was completely destroyed whereas 18 suspected militants were killed.

Bomb blast leaves police official injured in Peshawar

PESHAWAR: A police official was injured on Tuesday in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast on a police van near Pishtakhara police station in the Safed Dheri area of Peshawar.

According to police sources, personnel from the Pishtakhara police station were on routine patrol on the Dora Road when the roadside bomb exploded.

Constable Aijaz was injured whereas the police van was completely destroyed in the explosion.

At least 15 killed in air strikes in Tirah valley

PESHAWAR: At least 15 suspected militants were killed early on Tuesday as F-16 jets bombed militant hideouts in the Tirah valley along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, according to the initial information.

The military jets targeted nine suspected hideouts in various parts of the Kokikhel area in Tirah valley of the Khyber tribal region, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed.

Taliban’s Mehsud faction severs ties with TTP

PESHAWAR: The spokesman of the Mehsud faction of the banned Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Azam Tariq on Monday announced that his group has formally separated from the central outlawed militant group.

The spokesman of the Mehsud group, who was also a central member of the Taliban shura, made the announcement in a press conference.

He added that the other Taliban factions were also becoming distrustful of the main organisation.

Azam further said that the Mehsud group had tried to reform the TTP, adding that despite its efforts, conniving elements in the organisation had emerged successful.

Around 24 killed in JUI-F Kurram rally blast

ISLAMABAD/PESHAWAR/QUETTA : A bomb blast struck a JUI-F public meeting in central Kurram on Monday, killing as many as 24 persons and injuring over 50 others, including two candidates of the religious party.However, a spokesman of the Jamiat Ulema Islam-Fazl confirmed that over 50 people were injured.

Around 3000 people were attending the rally, jointly organised by the party’s candidates from NA-37 and NA-38 Haji Munir Khan Orakzai and Ainuddin Shakir at a local seminary in Sewak village of Para Chamkani area, when the bomb planted at the site went off.
